Change Your Story, Change Your Life


How do you talk to yourself? What is the story you are telling, either to yourself, or to others? What and how you think becomes an ingrained pattern that has been developed throughout your entire life. You adopt beliefs, thoughts, and expectations from society, your family, friends, and the media, which may or may not be true, and may or may not help you reach your goals. Why is this? 

A belief is just a thought you keep thinking. You’ve practiced that thought enough times, that now you believe it to be true, and to support your belief, you look for evidence, or other experiences that will confirm and reinforce your beliefs… as you don’t want to be wrong.

Your beliefs are often your perception of the way things are and what you believe to be true. But this does not mean that your beliefs are actually true. So, how can you change the stories you keep telling ourselves if you ‘believe’ them to be true? 

Let’s take a moment to see how your mind actually works (in a nutshell)… 

Your conscious mind is your logical, rational, analytical mind. You think, analyze, and plan. You make decisions and reason. This accounts for approximately 10% of your brain’s functions and is the weakest part. 

Most people use their conscious mind successfully and incorrectly.

Your subconscious mind (the other approximately 90% of your brain’s functions) is where everything that has consciously or unconsciously happened to you has been stored. It holds the experiences – good and bad - which influence how you go through life. It holds the rules and regulations on how to get through your day automatically.  Every single thing you have ever experienced is recorded and stored in your subconscious mind.

When you have a conscious belief that you want to make changes in your life, but your subconscious mind is not in agreement with those changes, the subconscious will seek congruence, familiarity, comfort, and will always win, thus keeping you in the mindset of those around you. You have got to immerse yourself in a different mindset so your subconscious mind can be reprogrammed, know you are serious about changing your life, and will begin to follow the rules for this new belief… seeking congruence.

Taking a closer look at the experiences that created your belief system, especially negative ones, is essential if you want to change your beliefs.

Begin by asking yourself:

  • Where does this belief come from?
  • Is this my belief or have I adopted it from someone else?
  • How does this belief help me?
  • How does this belief hinder me?
  • How do I know this belief is true?
  • What is my new and updated belief?

Journaling is the best way I have found to get to the
bottom of some of your deepest beliefs. 

You have to get your conscious mind and subconscious mind in sync with each other. If you want to do something consciously, telling yourself over and over, essentially “willing” yourself to do it, but you never seem to come out on the winning side… your subconscious mind has a different belief system, thus all your willpower is not going to work. Your subconscious mind will always win. 

To make permanent changes, reprogramming your belief system, hypnotherapy is the way to go. It’s simple, effect, and the changes are lasting. If you are motivated to create the changes in your life and you are a willing participant, it’s 100% effective.

When you have belief in yourself, what you are capable of, and that you deserve to create the life you want. Abundance is waiting for you…  New opportunities come your way, and success follows. It's not going to be overnight success, but little by little, the habits you develop are going to reap big rewards. It all starts in your mind. It all starts with working on YOU.

If you choose to grow, and commit to taking steps of growth daily, you will be on your way to reaching your potential. If you keep learning and growing every day over the course of many years, you will be astounded by how far it will take you.
